Recently, working from home has become the routine of thousands of Portuguese.

In fact, many companies decided to implement working from home even before the state of emergency was decreed, which helps to reduce the spreading of COVID-19, by social distancing.

In this new scenario, it is imperative to maintain productivity and well-being. So, while working from home, here are some suggestions that help you to be more productive and preserve your well-being.

Keep your routines

Have a nutritive breakfast, preparing it as if you were going out. In addition, since you are always home, be sure you enjoy your meals with the family. Despite working from home, lunch time and snack breaks are essential.

Set your workplace

Be sure you have the necessary equipment to feel comfortable and be able to perform your tasks effectively. It is crucial that the working station is in a different area of your relaxing space and where the family spends time.

Set a work schedule

Don’t be tempted to extend your work schedule by having your computer close. Avoid psychological distress, which is difficult to manage at this point.

Implement communication software

Choose, with your team, the two or three main applications you will use to communicate. Preferably, adopt applications that you are used to, in order to reduce constraints during a situation that is new in many aspects.

Videocalls at home

Videocalls increased dramatically in this period. Adopt good practices, such as putting the microphone in silence when you are not speaking, using headphones and updating your status to keep your colleagues informed.

Control your meals

Have water, tea or coffee near you. Keep the morning and afternoon breaks for snacks. More than ever, you need to keep being healthy and stay hydrated.

Define a list of tasks and priorities

Create a daily plan. In the beginning of the process to implement teleworking regime, it is possible that you will feel and increase in the flow of requests, emails and tasks. It is normal, as there is a greater online presence of colleagues, employees and customers. And in fact, everyone finds themselves adapting to these new ways.

Take a few breaks

Don’t forget that you should not be sitting in front of the computer for long periods. During the short breaks, take the time to walk the dog, play a little with your children or to go by the window simply to take a deep breath.

Work organization

Maintain online communication with your colleagues. It is important to keep in mind that the company still needs its know-how and that the tasks get done. It is essential to maintain the workflow. In addition, keep interacting with the coworkers is essential to avoid feeling isolated and bored. Take a few minutes a day to talk about something other than work, to relax and strengthen relationships.

Work periods

Define, with your family, the work periods where you cannot be interrupted. If you have young children, plan school or leisure activities for them to do while you are working. It helps them to stay busy and focused.

This new context may cause some anxiety, since the news and the scenario represent a big challenge. Stay positive and focused as you need to be at home. Take the opportunity to spend more time with your family and, especially, with your children.
